Kitchen Window Treatments

The kitchen is the most informal part of the house and also that part of the house which needs to be kept spotlessly clean, bright and appealing. A bright, well -lit and airy kitchen is what every household should have. Hence the need for a well dressed window. With a little imagination, you could have a fabulously dressed kitchen window.

The kitchen is the hub of all family activities and needs to exude a warm, cozy feeling as most household members would sit down here with the morning coffee and the newspaper, or to a little peace and quiet over a pot of tea or some lemonade. If you have no privacy concerns, you could opt for a valance or swag used alone or with an existing kitchen window treatment. A shade with some unique hand-painted design or logo printed on it would give the kitchen an exclusive look. Sheer fabric or bamboo Roman shades are ideal kitchen window treatments, especially great for breakfast nooks, if your kitchen has one. A few indoor plants in cute decorative pots around the kitchen window are a very soothing sight.

A kitchen window near the sink or preparation area would need a blind that is easy to clean, considering that the cleaning would be an almost daily task. Germs and mildew thrive in damp places with little or no ventilation.  Faux wood blinds would be a good option, because they are not affected by moisture or heat, are easy to clean and offer enough ventilation. Faux wood blinds have the look of natural wood and the durability of polyvinyl. Venetian blinds, Chrome and Aluminum blinds or simple wooden slats are good choices too. Window films for a kitchen window close to the sink would be ideal as it does not require the kind of cleaning a blind would need. The film allows light to seep through, while it blocks the view from the outside. Designer versions in various designs and patterns are available too.
